Your biggest online security mistakes (and how to avoid them)

Cult of Mac - We all make compromises daily when it comes to online security. Everybody wants to be safe and secure when making purchases online, but practically none of us do everything necessary to keep our data secure.

The Secret to Teaching Great Writing: Use the News!

The Secret to Teaching Great Writing: Use the News!

edudemic.com - As a professional writer and a writing specialist, I know that not everyone is as hepped up about words as I am. (What, you mean you don't want to spend the next five hours chatting about the relationship between a character's syntax and their familial history? Say it ain't so!). I know that if I have any hope of maintaining student (and teacher) attention spans, I have to keep it relevant to the here and now.

We need schools to be different

Shared from Zite

Love this!

We need schools to be different

Dangerously Irrelevant - As Clay Shirky has noted, we currently are living through 'the largest expansion in expressive capability in human history.' We no longer live in a world where we passively receive information that is broadcast out to us by large, centralized entities. Instead, we now live within multidirectional conversation spaces in which 12-year-olds can reach audiences at scales that previously were reserved for major media companies, large corporations, and governments. We all now can have a voice. We all now can be publishers. We all now can find each other's thoughts and ideas and can share, cooperate, collaborate, and take collective action. Time and geography are no longer barriers to communicating and working together.

This Is How Students Can Use Google Docs Real Time Collaboration

educatorstechnology.com - November 15, 2014 One of the best features that Google Docs provides to its users is real time collaboration. Students can use it to work on a writing project in the same time. Using this feature students will be able to see what each one has added to the document, access edits, and even carry on a little chat on the side of the document. The syncing process is quite seamless and instantaneous.

Tiny robotic scallops can swim through blood and eyeball fluid to fix you up

Engadget - For years now, scientists have been trying to develop microscopic robots that can swim through bodily fluids and repair damaged cells or deliver medicine. Now, a team of scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Germany believe they've got the perfect design -- in the form of scallops so small, they can barely be seen by the naked eye. These micro-robo-scallops move back and forth to swim through blood, eyeball fluids and other liquids inside our body. The scientists believe mimicking the way a true scallop swims is ideal, due to a number of reasons.
